REVIEW OF CANAL ST CD
by George Giles
The Millennium Eagle Jazz Band was reformed nine years ago and five of the present line-up have been with the band ever since. This is evident when one listens to the superb ensemble playing which has been honed to perfection during their time together. As for the solos, superb playing from the five very experienced musicians, each a master of his instrument.
The newcomer is the phenomenal young drummer Jack Cotterill who at the time of this recording was probably under sixteen years old! Having seen him at a live session, it is almost unbelievable what he does with his sticks and it comes through strongly on this C.D., especially on “China Boy”. The opening number, “Fidgety Feet” sets the standard which is unfaltering trough to the finale, “Wolverine Blues”, ten great standards played with verve and enthusiasm, guaranteed to get feet tapping and three vocals nicely interspersed make this a C.D. well worth listening to.Thoroughly recommended as a good buy, it’s available at the band’s sessions or direct from Matt Palmer by phoning him on 0115 921 2464.
